Screenshot redaction guide

How to redact a screenshot

Screenshots often include more private information than expected: names, tabs, URLs, messages, account details, and notification previews. Redact them before sharing.

Step-by-step

  1. Take the screenshot.
  2. Open Redacted.
  3. Paste the screenshot with Ctrl/Cmd + V, or select the saved file.
  4. Cover every sensitive area with a black box, blur, or pixelation.
  5. Download or copy the redacted screenshot.

Safer screenshot redaction

For text, use a solid black box when possible. A light blur can leave shapes and character lengths visible. For faces, use pixelation or a round blur.
