How to blur a face in a photo
Blurring a face is the most common way to anonymise someone in a photo before sharing it online. Redacted makes it a five-second job — no upload, no account, no watermark.
Steps
- Open Redacted and load your photo (drag & drop, paste, or Select image).
- Drag a selection over the face.
- Pick the round shape so the blur follows the face naturally.
- Pick the blur mask in the toolbar.
- Adjust the selection if needed.
- Click Download to save the anonymised photo.
Tips for a good result
- Cover a little more area than the face itself — ears, hairline, and jaw can still be recognisable.
- If multiple faces need blurring, add one selection per face. You can keep different masks on different selections.
- For a stronger anonymisation, consider the pixelate mask; it is harder to reverse than a light blur.
Does blur really anonymise?
A heavy blur is usually enough for casual social sharing. For investigative or legal contexts where anonymisation must be robust, use the black box mask, which removes all information from the covered area.
